MARKS made an impact in the York FA Saturday Senior Cup, but it was a maximum for Easingwold Town to shock top-flight Copmanthorpe.

Entertaining their first division opponents, Copmanthorpe were favourites to progress, but they suffered a single-goal exit, Easingwold's Mark Hutchinson on target 20 minutes from time.

The anguish for Copmanthorpe was suffered most by Mark Hirst, whose missed penalty topped several squandered chances.

Haxby United edged into a 1-0 lead over visiting Old Malton when slack defensive play let in David Thompson for a well-taken header. But after losing their goalkeeper to an hamstring injury Haxby's hopes fizzled out.

Phil Hill levelled two minutes into the second half and then added another before the tie was sealed by Heath Brown's expert volley.

All the goals in the six-strike thriller between St John's College and Dunnington came in the first half in which the students prevailed to win 4-2. After going behind to a Robin Bedford shot, Dunnington took the lead with replies from Guy Jackson and Chris Burgess. But Mike Craig levelled before a Ben Winstanley brace made the tie safe.

Malton Bacon Factory ousted Hamilton Panthers by the same 4-2 scoreline led by Simon Collins' superb hat-trick. Wayne Hazel hammered in a 25-yarder, while Panthers' marksmen were Paul King and Shaun Turner.

Teenage nerves remained calm for Rufforth United.

They fielded no fewer than nine 17-year-olds in their clash against New Earswick with two of the youngsters, Anthony Evans and Luke Baines, sharing the goals in a 2-2 draw after extra time. The youngsters then won the shoot-out 5-4 thanks to a save from Brendan Ledgway.

Controversy dogged the exit of holders Dringhouses Reserves to Dunnington at the first hurdle of the York FA Saturday Junior Cup.

After extra time both sides were locked in goal-less stalemate. The allotted five penalties apiece left them tied at 3-3 to take the tie into sudden-death.

Dringhouses missed their next kick but then the holders' goalkeeper saved the Dunnington spot-kick until he was ruled to have moved off his line forcing the kick to be ordered to be re-taken.

Before it was the 'Houses custodian was on his way, sent off for alleged comments to the referee. The spot-kick was duly netted against the stand-in and Dunnington bagged their place in the second round.

Fulford United Reserves showed a cool nerve to rally from a goal down to topple Civil Service Reserves 4-1. James Stewart hit two goals, the others shared by Gary Ratcliffe and Mike Tansey.

Bishopthorpe Reserves also came from behind. Trailing to Heslington Reserves, David Kettlewell (2) and Paul Broadbent replied to clinch a 3-1 win.

A late blitz ended Haxby United Reserves' push to eliminate last year's beaten finalists Sheriff Hutton.

Haxby struck first through Michael Taylor only for Stuart Greenwood and Dale Phillips to strike to put the Sheriff ranks ahead. Stewart Baker then levelled and Haxby thought the tie was heading for extra time.

But Kevin Butler hit a late hat-trick and Greenwood struck again for a 6-2 win.

Super-sub Chris Moate was the toast of Poppleton United Reserves when his goal five minutes from time notched a late win over New Earswick Reserves.
