A Tom Matthews double and a debut strike by substitute Gavin Dickinson saw Selby Town climb to fifth in the Northern Counties East League premier division.

Selby were looking to build on last week's 3-1 win at Maltby Main, and got off to the perfect start at Flaxley Road with a goal in the first minute.

Ian Twitchen won a high ball on the edge of the box and his knock down fell to Matthews, whose low shot beat Ross Whalin at his near post.

Selby controlled the first half, but could not add to their tally. Twitchen's 20-yard shot was deflected for a corner, before a 30-yard screamer by Mick Mackenzie was touched away by Whalin.

The home side repeatedly found themselves in space on the left wing, but a series of crosses failed to beat the first man, with strikers waiting to pounce.

The second half offered little of note until a double change by Selby turned the game. With 67 minutes gone, Adam Walsh and new signing Gavin Dickinson replaced Tosh Reid and Matty Wain, and within ten minutes the change paid off.

Walsh won the ball in midfield, and threaded it through to Dickinson, who calmly rounded the 'keeper and slotted home to make it 2-0 after 76 minutes.

Long Eaton nearly got a consolation goal on 87 minutes, but Aiden Ready's curling shot from 20 yards was well saved by Adam Mitchell, the first real save the home 'keeper had to make.

Selby wrapped things up on 89 minutes. Twitchen cut into the box from the right, and his cut back was fired home by Matthews.

Selby assistant boss Gary Cygan was pleased with the result, but said: "I do not think we played to our full potential. We should really have had it over by half-time. Once we did get that second goal, we could have got four or five."

Pickering Town earned their first NCEL premier division victory of the season by winning 2-1 at Shirebrook Town.

The Pikes moved out of the bottom two and up to 14th with Mark Swales netting after just two minutes and Steve Roberts adding a second on 50 minutes. Shirebrook's Rob Orton replied on 76 minutes.

Harrogate Railway slipped up 2-1 to Maltby Main.

The Station View men lost their first home match and trailed to Jamie Williams and Martin Brissett goals.

Scott Ryan scored a consolation four minutes from time but Railway have now dropped to eighth in the table and Maltby were left celebrating their first win on their travels this season.

Tadcaster Albion were enjoying a profitable outing at Borrowash Victoria until they let a two-goal lead slip to lose 3-2 and give up their unbeaten NCEL first division record.

Early goals from Steve Mallory and Simon Kehoe should have put Albion in the comfort zone, but things started to go wrong when the referee inexplicably denied Albion a penalty and a sending-off when Andy Green was clearly tripped as he shaped to shoot with only the home goalkeeper to beat.

Borrowash pulled a goal back out of nothing just before half-time with a far-post header.

Albion had the chance to restore their two-goal advantage when they did get a penalty for a foul by the 'keeper on Steve Ward. But Mark Brady's spot-kick was saved.

A goal with a volley 14 minutes from time levelled and yet again from the same position at the far post as the first goal came a headed winner in stoppage time.
