YOUR line of taking the side of the whingers with your Bin It! campaign is ill judged.
I believe, and did at the time when black bins were first issued several years ago, that they merely encouraged people to throw more away than they used to when having bin liners.
It was obvious that the situation was unsustainable.
No one wants a tip or incinerator anywhere near them but will shout their heads off if they are asked to recycle or reduce what they throw away.
We have the worst record in Europe for recycling and yet we are the smallest country. What do they expect to happen when Rufforth Whin is full?
I'm sure the residents of Rufforth would have welcomed the publicity you are giving to this campaign when they were protesting about its proximity to their properties.
The black bin is adequate for two weeks if it is filled properly by standing and flattening soft and bulky packaging. Do not put cardboard boxes in whole so that the bin starts off two thirds full. And do buy less food, because one third of what is bought is thrown away.
I deal with eight bins a week from different properties and have no problem. I feed 30 chickens on the waste and sell the eggs in the village.
I support City of York Council and hope it succeeds once the teething problems are solved.
Foss Islands tip is open seven days a week so I feel that the council has made good provision for the public. It is up to everyone to make this work.
