Millthorpe, Queen Margaret's and Tadcaster Grammar will all be represented at the North East finals of the English Schools' Cross-Country Cup after racing through the North Yorkshire round at Thirsk.
Millthorpe and Queen Margaret's were the leading two teams in the inter girls, and Tadcaster won the junior girls. These now qualify for the North East final, and all look to be in with a chance of reaching the national showdown.
Queen Margaret's' new arrival from Scotland, Laura Goodson, was an impressive winner in the inter girls race, while Millthorpe's Sophie Hunter had a very good run to finish third.
With Millthorpe placing their four counters in the first seven finishers, they look particularly strong contenders for a good national placing.
In the junior race, Tadcaster's Charlotte Mason had an excellent run and led for most of the race before being caught by a fast finisher close to the end.
Inter girls - 70 ran - 1 Laura Goodson (Queen Margaret's), 3 Sophie Hunter (Millthorpe), 4 Elizabeth Eden (QM), 5 Katie Hunter (Mill), 6 Jodie Spencer (Mill), 7 Jenny Parker (Mill), 18 Jennifer Hobbiss (QM).
Junior girls - 75 ran - 2 Charlotte Mason, 7 Ella Walker, 15 Becky Bass (all Tadcaster Grammar).
Junior boys - 66 ran - 10 Andrew Taylor (Tadcaster), 11 Andy Lea (Millthorpe).
