Warriors march on
Selby Warriors U13s' unbeaten start to the season continued with an impressive 48-4 win at Stanningley.
Magnificent defence set the tone for the game and for the fourth consecutive time it was coaches' choice Jacob Scales who broke the deadlock with a fine try.
Josh Skilbeck then went over for the first of his brace. Soon after coming on Shaun Bell found himself straight on the score sheet when powerful direct running brought him his sixth try of the season.
Stanningley managed to spoil an otherwise perfect defensive display after a kick and chase. But man of the match Danny Bate grabbed his first of the season for a 24-4 half-time lead.
Selby quickly regained command. Winger James Moore scored his first for the club after seizing on a grubber kick from fullback Arran Sharpe, Skilbeck crossed for his 17th try in four games and Bate added another. Sharpe kicked seven conversions with Javen Copeland also sending one between the posts.
Reign of Stuart
Man of the match Stuart Leeke scored a hat-trick as York Acorn U14s beat Drighlington 20-6 thanks to a good second-half show.
Defences were on top in the first period, with Acorn getting the only points with Leeke's first try converted by Antony Chilton.
The second half was controlled well by Acorn with strong running from Josh Mortimer, Chris Rushworth, Mathew Winn, James Webb and Ben Sleightholme a feature, while Leeke's power and pace saw him complete his treble and set up Mike Kellett for a deserved score. Chilton added two conversions.
Prop stars shine
Props Mike Husband and Jack Butler led New Earswick All Blacks U12s in an excellent team performance at Dewsbury Celtic.
Great defence came from Andrew Scriven, Sean Malarkey, Luke Birkinshaw, Rob Graham and Luke Caddie and try-scorers in the 26-4 win were Jack Miller, Tom Holmes, Jake Maddison, Mike Wharram and David Hayes. Goals were added by Wharram, Malarkey and Holmes.
Ryan's success
Ryan Martin scored a try and conversion and was man of the match as a depleted Heworth U10s put in an excellent, hard-working display at Milford.
Richard Ashton topped the tackle count, while Max Cammidge was most improved, followed by Greg Calam. Skipper Liam Forshaw scored two tries and Jonathan Rawsthorne a conversion.
Stannard proud
A STRONG defensive approach from Acorn U12s' Dean Stannard kept opponents West Leeds at bay until the visitors managed to breach the Acorn line twice just before half time.
The second half saw Ryan Gallacher and Ryan Duffell's strong running gaining ground for Acorn. But despite a fine break from man of the match Danny Atkins Acorn just could not get over the whitewash.
