AFTER being vigilant for four weeks since our green bin arrived so that no vegetable or meat waste contaminated it, the bin was emptied today.
I wondered if the dustbin wagons had been steam cleaned prior to green waste collection to eradicate contamination from weekly grey bin refuse (i.e soiled nappies, dairy products and meat waste).
On inquiring, I found out that the dustbin wagons were not being steamed cleaned, in fact they were not being cleaned at all. So what is the point in all residents taking care of what is placed in the bin if the council are not cleaning the collection vehicles before green waste is collected?
Does the company which is taking the green waste know of this, and if so what about the insurance which we were all informed was the reason they could not collect vegetable waste, eg leaves off a cauliflower etc, as it may be contaminated with meat products?
