Sheriff Hutton jockey Kevin Darley can figure among the winners on one of his old favourites at Newmarket tomorrow on the first of three days of the Champions' Meeting.
Darley will be reunited with Paradise Isle in the £33,000 Boadicea Fillies' Stakes and is napped to lift the honours in this Listed race, just as the same partnership succeeded in doing for a second year in succession in a tough handicap over this course-and-distance two weeks ago.
On that occasion, Chris Wall's filly gave 9lb and a one length beating to Firenze, scoring in a style which suggests she is in rude health.
A creditable third to Ruby Rocket in this race last year, Paradise Isle can get her revenge this time. The ground is good to firm in places which, unless it rains appreciably in the meantime, may prove a little too fast for mud-lover Ruby Rocket.
Green Manalishi gets my vote in the Strutt & Parker Handicap over five furlongs.
The four-year-old won at Haydock on his latest start, beating old ally Cape Royal, who takes him on again tomorrow. There should be little to choose between them, but Green Manalishi is selected to win once more in the hands of Richard Quinn.
Frankie Dettori has good prospects of winning the Sir Stephen Hastings Memorial Maiden Stakes aboard Godolphin's Scandal Keeper. The Danzig colt went down narrowly on his debut on Newmarket's July course and looks one to note.
Dettori also has good prospects on Portrayal in the Lanwades Stud Severals Stakes. Portrayal was a smart filly in France last year when trained by Andre Fabre. She did well in Group races, including being a close-up fifth to the brilliant Divine Proportions in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac.
It is nearly always significant when William Haggas books Kieren Fallon for a ride, and the Newmarket trainer has duly got the former champion jockey's services for Commentary in the NGK Spark Plugs Nursery.
A good winner at Folkestone on her second outing, after showing plenty of promise first time out at Windsor, Commentary runs in her first handicap here off a mark of 80 and looks well treated.
