YORK'S Under-25s' national double rink championship indoor bowls campaign was short-lived as they bowed out to Newcastle team The Parks 49-27.
At home, Paul Humphreys, Andrew Brook, Jamie Lee and Liam Henderson had a tough encounter against a rink skipped by England U25 international Robert Chisholm. He dominated the game leading 27-5 after 15 ends.
However, the hosts showed their potential by winning the last six ends 8-2 to reduce the deficit to 29-13.
At Newcastle, Chris Lea, Josh Cahill, Adam Liddell and Zoe Eagles fared better. They countered from 10-3 down after ten ends to lead 12-11 five ends later, only to lose their way over the remainder of the game, which they lost 20-14.
Yorkshire Over-55s League champions York 'A' started their season impressively by beating last season's division two title-winners Metrodome at Barnsley 41-40.
Frank Turner, Graham Brooke, Tom Ellis and Dudley Williams had the edge in the early half of the game, going ahead 9-6 after nine ends and then 14-10 at 14 ends, only for the home side to twice level before a two steered York to a precious 20-18 triumph.
In the other rink, Ray Clark, Geoff Walker, Alan Clapham and Colin Sharpley started well with a four on the second end, but seven ends later they trailed 14-6. However, they stepped up a gear to level it three ends later.
It was nip and tuck right through with York eventually leading 21-20 before they yielded a two to lose by the narrowest of margins.
