Josh Stilgoe found the back of the net for the third week running as York Under-11 schoolboys chalked up a comfortable 2-1 win over Leeds.

York dominated for long periods so much that the final scoreline flattered Leeds. Early chances fell to Paul Winterburn and Dan Wilson but it wasn't until the end of the first half that the deadlock was broken by Stilgoe from close-range.

York expected Leeds to make the most of the strong wind behind their backs after the half-time switch but it was the hosts who doubled their lead minutes after the restart when Jack Littlechild struck with his left foot.

York continued to lay siege to the Leeds goal with man of the match Tom Allen going close several times.

Leeds did find a consolatory effort late on but the York defence, marshalled by Elliot Frodsham at centre-half with right-back Josh Poulter and 'keeper James Hall thwarting further inroads.

The U11s return to action at home to Sheffield in their opening league match on October 15, kick off 10.30am.

Battling York U13s went down with all guns blazing in a 4-3 defeat to visiting Hull.

Hull went 2-0 up before Tom Richardson halved the gap with a header by half-time. Skipper Adam Thornton fired in an equaliser shortly after the re-start.

Hull again broke out to go 3-2 up only for Dan Owers to turn in a Josh Waite corner to level with a volley from outside the area. But a strike five minutes from time sealed Hull's win.

Failing to capitalise on early chances cost York U14s as they lost 3-0 to Hull.

A tight first half saw the York side go close several times but it was three second half goals for Hull that swung the game.

York have plenty to build on after their season's first outing against a team including five academy players. Callum Andrew was man of the match.

The schoolboys' association thanked Copmanthorpe FC for staging both the U13 and U14 matches, which included excellently observed minute's silences in memory of former Evening Press correspondent and local football stalwart Peter Wilmott.

York U12s' opening fixture against South Notts has been cancelled but a squad of 18 has been picked for training on Saturday at York Sixth-Form College from 9.45am-11am.

York U15s were left ruing a string of first half chances after drawing 2-2 with Hull in the season's first friendly.

A poor clearance gifted Hull a 1-0 half-time lead but York levelled after Christian Derrick found John Richardson, who finished at the second attempt.

Hull again went ahead after a dropped cross by stand-in 'keeper Richard Johnson, who later made a fine double-save, before Chris Storey floated a corner high into the net.

The U15s go to Sheffield on Saturday in the English Schools' FA Cup.
