THE replica Micklegate Bar planned for York, Nebraska, is instantly recognisable. But if the designers are striving for total accuracy we would respectfully offer some suggestions.
To ensure the landmark is historically precise, a few severed heads on spikes are essential. A trip to Micklegate Bar Museum would bring the designers face to putrefying face with Sir Henry "Hotspur" Percy and other traitors, recalled with grim relish.
However, should the American team insist on a more contemporary feel, then a few dozen animatronic revellers, singing and swaying through the archway, would make for a thoroughly modern re-creation.
