ONCE upon a time all refuse was collected in metal bins from the back of the house by the refuse collector. When empty, the bins were replaced at the back of the house.
Now two wheelie bins reside at the back of the house, the onus on the residents to place the appropriate bin at the kerbside for collection of refuse, or it does not get emptied.
The box and bag for paper, tins and glass is fine for recycling, but telephone directories, plastics, metals, rags and such are requested to be taken to supermarket skips or amenities around the city.
So how much longer before all refuse is requested to be taken to amenity skips and there are no collections of refuse from householders?
Collectors for refuse, watch your backs. Full-time jobs are few and far between.
