Alexander Goldrun can triumph on Champions' Day at Newmarket tomorrow by winning the feature event on the best day's racing of the year on the Flat in Britain.

I think that Jim Bolger's mare will have the edge over the favourite Oratorio in the £350,000 Emirates Airlines Champion Stakes as she bids to make-up for unlucky defeats on her last two starts.

Nine times a winner and successful at Group 1 level on four occasions, Alexander Goldrun attempted to come from too far behind in a muddling contest for the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp last time and, despite staying on strongly, had to settle for third place behind Kinnaird.

At Leopardstown on her previous start she was beaten by less than a length into third place by Oratorio after missing the break, meeting trouble in running and again being left with too much ground to make up.

Oratorio, representing the powerful Coolmore team of Aidan O'Brien and Kieren Fallon, is the favourite tomorrow. Having previously beaten Derby winner Motivator in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes, he is a worthy market-leader, but the value of the race has surely got to be Nap selection Alexander Goldrun, at around 10-1.

O'Brien looks to have the Darley Dewhurst Stakes in his grasp with either Horatio Nelson or George Washington.

He has said that only one of them will run and he will decide tomorrow which of these two top-notch colts it will be. Whichever he relies upon will start a red-hot favourite and is impossible to oppose.

The totesport Cesarewitch Handicap looks far trickier. Fans of Kieren Fallon will go with the favourite Afrad, who looks sure to run well.

But those seeking a lively outsider could do worse than support Establishment, who has run creditably in this race in the past and was a good third at Goodwood last time out. The mount of Hayley Turner, he was 100-1 with some bookmakers this morning and is a tempting each-way proposition.

The £20,000 totesport.com Dash over five furlongs has pride of place at Catterick tomorrow. Mr Wolf is fancied to collect for Scorton trainer David Barker. Mr Wolf has been running well all season and represents a trainer who gained a one-two in the sprint handicap at Newmarket yesterday with Sierra Vista and Mecca's Mate.
