YORK City Knights have come to an agreement with Leigh Centurions over the release of Cook Island duo Tere Glassie and Dana Wilson.
The two packmen signed for the Knights from Oldham in a high-profile swoop at the back end of last month only to then do a sensational about turn, the belief being that relegated Super League side Leigh had stepped in with a better offer.
It was always likely that the pair, who flew home to New Zealand earlier this month, would then end up at Leigh, especially as York stated they did not want players who were not committed to the club. However, the Knights held their registrations and were thus in a position to demand a fee from their new LHF National League One rivals.
It is not known whether such a transfer fee has been paid for the South Sea Island duo but, in a joint statement issued by both clubs which confirmed the Knights had released the pair, Knights chief executive John Guildford said they were happy with the arrangement.
"We entered into a contract with the two players, however both changed their minds and wish to be released," he said.
"The Knights have agreed to release them both. York only want players who are 100 per cent committed to the club. All parties are happy with the agreement".
Centurions football director Stephen Grainey said: "We contacted York when it became known that Tere and Dana did not want to play there. John and the board of directors at York have been very profes-sional in the handling of the situation and we as a club are delighted they have allowed Leigh to sign the two players."
