JEREMY Fox makes an important point that methane is 22 times more serious a contributor to climate change than carbon dioxide (Letters, October 7).
The Lib Dem council is introducing garden waste recycling in order to reduce methane emissions as well as landfill. Whatever criticisms are made of their handling of the introduction of this scheme, the aim is laudable.
However the Lib Dems locally and Labour nationally are not thinking strategically. Methane emissions from landfill are less than a thousandth of carbon dioxide from heating, transport and industry.
