WHILE the senior oarsmen of York City Rowing Club stayed on home water training for the forthcoming York Small Boats Head, the junior squad was winning in style at the Ancholme Head of the River event.
The juniors swept to eight wins in all led by the novice squad of Zoe Ditch, Leah Ward, Sarah Chase and Dawn Richmond-Gordon - the fastest women's crew of the day in 11 minutes and 58 seconds.
Richmond-Gordon also won the women's junior 18 single sculls in a time of 14mins 56 secs, while the women's novice single sculls was won by Leah Ward in 15-20.
The women's junior 15 double sculls was won by Iona Harrap and Louise Hood in 14-24 with both teaming up with Emily Shaw and Catherine Fowler to take the women's junior 16 quad sculls in 14-01.
There was a double success for Rob McKenzie. He triumphed in the men's junior 15 single sculls in an excellent time of 13-23, beating others in older categories, before he and Chris Wright took the men's junior 15 double sculls in 12-14.
The final success was in the men's junior 14 double sculls - John Reeder and Owen Harrison home first in 13-36.
There was almost a ninth YCRC success.
The men's junior 15 coxed quad of Johnny Moss, Wright, Harrison and Reeder, coxed by Alice Hood, was the fastest quad of the morning before being pipped at the post by three seconds by a St Peter's School crew rowing later in the day.
