I READ with great sadness of the demise of the long established chocolate manufacturer Joseph Terry & Sons of York.
My father David C Stewart was for many years the company secretary and then appointed to the board as financial director.
In my youth, I was taken on as an apprentice "cocoa and sugar confectioner" but had to give it away because I suffered dermatitis after coming in contact with cocoa butter - part of the process.
My late father, David, would have been saddened to learn of the closure of the factory because he was a Terry's man to the hilt.
Many names come to mind such as Noel and Peter Terry, Harold Milner, Arthur Blackburn, George Stembridge (I think), Geoff Spears and not forgetting Jimmy who drove the staff car.
Long gone but fond memories. Shame on you Kraft - but what do you expect from multi nationals?
