E PICKERING, in his letter about the improved lighting of York city centre attractions (October 13), forgets that the scheme is mainly being funded by Yorkshire Forward to encourage evening tourism.
Interestingly, since the flat evening rate parking charge was introduced (£1 all night for residents) together with the improved allocation of on-street parking spaces, more people are visiting the city centre. Those who do will be able to see a lighting spectacle which both enhances the evening setting of our historic buildings and provides a safer general level of illumination.
