YORK Acorn ARLC will await their fate from the National Conference League with trepidation after their division one game at Castleford Lock Lane was abandoned because of fighting.
The Blue and Golds, flying high in the table, were leading 18-8 with 13 minutes to go when Dewsbury referee Jamie Leahy called a premature halt to proceedings.
Acorn's Mike Embleton and Lock Lane's Paul Stockton were sin-binned after a clash and then a second melee involving several players saw the official, who is a National League standard referee, decide enough was enough.
The result has been submitted and counted in the current standings but league committee must now decide whether that scoreline stands and or whether to punish either or both clubs.
The game, which was switched to Friday night because of the engage Super League Grand Final the following evening, had been a decent, competitive affair before it all blew over amid disgraceful scenes.
Lock Lane had gone head with a Steve Bolderson penalty only for half-back Andy Gargan to get Acorn going, the visitors scoring tries through Embleton, Steve Irving, Lee Frank and Andy Henson. The latter added a goal for an 18-2 half-time lead.
The Lane, error-strewn in that first half, lifted their enthusiasm levels after the interval, dominated more and crossed the whitewash through Paul Crouch, Bolderson converting.
But things then began to boil over and the repercussions could be serious for both teams.
