DAVID Stockdale has welcomed the return of goalkeeping coach Pete Glanville to York City, whose number one well-being looks in safe hands.
Former Reading reserve Glanville first put City's custodians through their paces in 1992 when Dean Kiely, Nick Culkin and Andy Warrington were vying for a first-team place.
He left the club after Neil Thompson was appointed manager in 1999 but has begun working once a week at the Minstermen's Wigginton Road training ground this season.
City spent most of last season without a goalkeeping coach after Paul Crichton's departure four games into the campaign and Stockdale said: "Pete's input has been good.
"We have got somebody now who can organise our own specialist stuff for us away from the rest of the team and we can go back to him with things after matches."
Glanville has, so far, been impressed with his three new senior pupils as well as teenage stopper Arran Reid.
He said: "Chris Porter is very good technically. He has good feet and good hands and, now he's playing more games in a team that's winning, he's starting to show what he can do. Only Morecambe and Hereford have conceded fewer goals this season so that must be partly down to Chris.
"David Stockdale has got tremendous hands and he has benefited from playing at Wakefield. Faz, meanwhile, seems really keen which is not surprising because he knows a life outside football. He knows how lucky these guys are and is pretty good technically.
"I've known Arran Reid since he was ten and he's got potential as long as he keeps his eye on the main target."
City's home match with Burton Albion has been brought forward five days to be screened live on Sky Sports television.
Billy McEwan's men had been due to entertain the Brewers on Saturday, November 12, but the game will now be played on Tuesday, November 8, kick-off 7.45pm.
