IT Sports Wigginton continued to put their early season defeat to Chapel Allerton behind them as they came from behind to beat Heaton 3-2 in a tricky home Yorkshire Premier Squash League tie.

The encounter went down to the final game in which Wigginton new boy Simon Carruthers did the business.

The tie of the match saw Wigginton sponsor Ian Tooms beaten by improving Nottinghamshire junior Lewis Walters.

The first game went to a tie-break and, although Tooms had three game balls, the speed of young Walters was too much.

The second game was over quickly and, although Tooms fought back in the third to keep the match alive, the superior fitness of the youngster was the decisive factor.

The eagerly-awaited clash of Yorkshire Under-17 champion Neil Cordell against last season's Yorkshire U19 number two Chris Bentley proved an anti-climax as Bentley conceded after just eight points of the first game.

At number one string, new Heaton coach Simon Parke was too strong for Andy Whipp, leaving Wigginton trailing 2-1, but at number three, Peter Billson had a relatively comfortable 3-0 win against Graeme Williams to level.

Then came Carruthers. In a match which swung like a pendulum, Carruthers took a 2-0 lead but Alex Stait, ranked 20th in England, fought back to level. Carruthers, though, closed out the final game to win it 11-7.
