COUNCILLOR Reid's "apology" for her "misjudgement" in "allowing" her daughter's wedding cortege to test the new traffic light system mustn't, I think, be taken too seriously.
What I imagine she is really sorry about is that her imperious misuse of the city's facilities has now become public knowledge and the subject of national comment.
I certainly have difficulty accepting her excuse that she had only been "testing the new technology". Most mothers I know, and not even the most diligent of councillors, would not voluntarily want to add to their anxieties on their daughter's wedding day.
As York's transport boss though, she is well aware of the slowness of traffic in the centre of the city. I'm surprised that the council leader has had no word of censure for the embarrassment caused to his administration for this abuse of office.
It all amounts to one more example of our local politicians failing to meet our expectations.
