WE live in an area where kerbside recycling has been in operation for a few years now and we have always given the scheme our full support.
Every week we had a full recycle bin and newspaper bag as well as a full wheelie bin, which were all collected weekly.
I don't understand how, by reducing these collections to fortnightly, we are meant to recycle more items but in the same bin we've been using for weekly collections.
Surely it makes sense, fewer collections plus more recycling adds up to the need for a bigger recycle bin!
While I support any scheme that encourages recycling, it is unrealistic to believe that household waste will be reduced significantly by having fewer collections.
In my opinion, the Government should be looking to the food manufacturers and supermarkets, aiming to discourage them from using all the unnecessary packaging that causes most of our non-degradable rubbish in the first place.
