I WAS amused to read that Councillor Moore thinks that the future's bright, the future's orange (Lib Dem colours). Was it his turn to have the council's rose tinted spectacles (Letters, October 14)?

Maybe he was describing York, Nebraska? It certainly seems that the councillor does not inhabit the same York, North Yorkshire, that I live in.

Councillor Moore mentions low council tax rates. I think that will shortly be debatable at best, what with the rate at which the tax is escalating. A tidier city? Is he talking only about the tourist areas?

There is an unkempt eyesore just a few hundred yards from Mr Moore's own back door. The grass verge on Clifton Moorgate behind the Bryant housing estate is an overgrown wilderness and an absolute disgrace.

Apparently no one has responsibility to look after this land.

The area is also riddled with graffiti - mostly badly spelled - so much for all that money spent on education!

It strikes me that the Liberal Democrat council in York is more New Labour than New Labour. It expects people who disagree with the council's perception of how things are to submit to re-education by propaganda until they accept the error of their ways. Ironically I used to be quite a committed Lib Dem voter. I used to love York. Now I only live here because my family and friends are here. Yes, York is richer and more prosperous, but I find it a more unpleasant place to live nonetheless.

Hung council? They should be.

Richard Greaves,

Morehall Close,

Clifton Moor, York.
