IN response to Mr C Cullen (Letters, October 19), I have just put my daughter's 2001 Ford Ka into the garage for its second MOT.

My daughter lives in Easingwold and works in York and both she and ourselves live on a road with speed humps on, so she has to go over quite a few during the year.

We now find, after only 29,000 miles, one suspension strut was loose in its housing and the steering rack is shot and needs replacing. After so few miles this can only be due to constantly having to negotiate speed humps.

To that end I can only agree with Mr Cullen. They are not an effective deterrent to most people, cause untold damage to vehicle suspension parts and it is about time more of them are removed as is taking place in some counties.
