ANGLERS have been urged to get 'snapping' over speeding boats.

At least two local clubs have reported that while tackling the River Ouse in the Fulford area they have been washed out by the wake from speeding craft.

The speed limit on the river is six knots, which is generally much slower than the majority of boat traffic I observe.

If you observe boaters flouting the limits then you can report the incident immediately to the Patrol Officer on 07876 035146.

Evidence is the key to a successful prosecution. Many digital cameras and mobile phones have the ability to capture video clips. Why not put the technology to good use.

On the opposite bank of the river problems have also been reported with parking arrangements on the Donkey Woods section.

A new gate is now in place that should be open 8am to 10pm. On one occasion, however a visiting club found the gate locked and parked on the grass verge.

This caused a degree of congestion and the damaged grass also had to be replaced. Club secretaries are advised to ring the crematorium manager prior to a visit giving an estimate of car numbers and fishing times.

Tickets are now on sale for the Ouse Championship, which will be fished, as usual, on York waters upstream of the City on Sunday, October 30. Should ticket sales reach recently unprecedented levels then water below York will be brought into play.

Secretaries should also note that next season the venue allocations will be on a first come-first served basis.

Application forms are available now and should be returned to the Waters Secretary as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

It may be prudent to avoid choosing venues that are on the endangered list as reported in last week's column.
