SCARBOROUGH boss Nicky Henry has been sacked as manager of Scarborough after a disastrous run of results.

Henry took over when Russ Slade left to join Grimsby in the summer of 2004 and after a reasonable first season Boro now find themselves bottom of the Conference and knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday by Conference North side Harrogate Town.

Chairman Malcolm Reynolds felt he had to do something to change things around.

He said: "It has been a very difficult decision to make because Nick has been at the club for over three years altogether and you get to know someone well in that time.

"But things were clearly not right and decisions have to be made.

"I think the squad we have here is good enough to rise in the Conference to a respectable level and so it is almost inevitable under such circumstances that the manager has to go."

Neil Redfearn, at present the player coach, will take charge of the team for the game against Aldershot on Saturday with Reynolds saying: "Neil will take over as caretaker and we will assess the situation after the weeeknd.

"We then have a blank week as we are out of the cup and then is the time to make a permanent appointment."

However, it is most unlikely that Redfearn will not get the job, though he will need some help and an experienced player coach is no doubt on his shopping-list.
