Heworth ARLC 'A' team completed a notable quick-fire double over East Leeds 'A' with a fine 22-18 away win in Yorkshire League division three.
The Villagers' second string had defeated East Leeds at Elmpark Way last week and a superb second-half performance helped them do so again as the York club enjoyed a rare open age double, the first XIII having beaten Waterhead.
Paul Thompson went 60 metres to give Heworth 'A' a great start with a fine individual try goaled by Gary Watkinson but the big, physical hosts took charge against the predominantly young visitors to lead 12-6 at the break.
Heworth also lost experienced forwards Dave Varley and Watkinson to bad facial injuries but their team spirit shone through as, with Kevin Gott, Joe Murphy and youngsters Sam Johnson, Andy Gaskell and Sean Brough all having fine games, they came back from 12-6 and then 18-10 down.
Captain Sam Clarke held off four defenders to set up Gott, Thompson powered over for his second try and man of the match Clarke scored a cracker, with Chris Hammerton converting the latter and adding a late penalty to win it.
