MS M Kendall's letter (November 1) attacking the Barbican protestors has rightly drawn a critical response (Letters, November 7).
I too would like to take issue with her when she tries to imply that the holding up of Galloway's dome, the drinking den on the Barbican site, is contributing to obesity levels. Perhaps she would care to ask her partner, Lib Dem councillor Christian Vassie, just who it was that shut the pool down? She might also like to ask him about the 2003 Lib Dem manifesto pledge to "ensure that the consultation on the future of the Barbican swimming pool is taken fully into account in selecting improvement options" - no mention of ignoring 6,000 people and pressing ahead with a late night drinking den.
If Ms Kendall is truly worried about exercise and obesity levels she might take an interest in the Lib Dems policy of selling off school playing fields for housing, contrary once again to their manifesto that states: "We will try to avoid the loss of surplus recreational land. We will consider options to protect playing fields such as handing over parks to community trusts run by local people."
If she is worried about a small group of people holding up progress and costing York taxpayers money, then perhaps she might like to direct her comments to the Lib Dem council, a group set to get very much smaller after 2007.
