SO, Ruth Potter and her anti-recycling Labour councillors believe the garden waste recycling scheme is "counterproductive" (Letters, November 4).
Over the first four weeks of the scheme participation in doorstep recycling has increased, the amount of waste York residents are now recycling has increased, and more than 1,235 tons of green waste have been diverted from landfill.
Under Labour's lacklustre proposals none of this would have happened and the amount of waste sent to landfill would have continued to pile up costing council taxpayers more and more each year.
Far from being counterproductive, this demonstrates that the Liberal Democrats are the only party willing to take tough decisions when it comes to the environment and, as usual, Labour come up with proposals that will divert no waste from landfill and save no money.
