THEY are big, orange and will be a key tool in Network Rail's 365 Day Challenge campaign to improve workforce safety across the rail network.
The York-based operator of Britain's railway infrastructure, which includes the tracks, signals, tunnels, bridges, viaducts, level crossings and stations has commissioned six dedicated "safety trucks."
Designed and built by Alphatec (UK) Ltd, the trucks will tour rail work sites across the country to remind contractors about the importance of safety.
Peter Henderson, director of Network Rail's projects and engineering, said: "We are committed to reinforcing the importance of safety among people working on the rail network.
"These new mobile classrooms allow us to take our safety messages straight to the workplace and workers throughout the country."
Mr Henderson was formally handed the keys for the £400,000 fleet from Chris Vaudin, managing director of Alphatec (UK) Ltd.
