DON'T miss tuning in to the £150,000 Betfair Chase at Haydock tomorrow to see the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner in action.
Kicking King, trained in Ireland by Tom Taaffe, promises to be the star of the show as he makes his first visit to Britain since his Gold Cup triumph in March.
That success, achieved in imperious style from Take The Stand, followed on from Kicking King winning the King George VI Chase at Kempton last Christmas, two wins that stamped him as the current outstanding three-mile chaser in England and Ireland.
Although he suffered a defeat on his recent comeback outing at Punchestown, there were valid excuses for that performance. He was too fresh and well after his summer break and consequently ran too freely, leaving him with nothing in the tank when War Of Attrition took his measure at the final fence.
That classy winner followed up at Clonmel in Ireland yesterday, leaving the impression that come Cheltenham in March he could again prove a thorn in the side of the reigning champion.
The eight runners to face the starter tomorrow include Ollie Magern, Kingscliff and Take The Stand, who filled the first three places in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby three weeks ago.
Ollie Magern might well come out best of the trio again but he is expected to find his level against Kicking King, who, with regular rider Barry Geraghty in the saddle, I fancy to produce a champion performance.
Beef Or Salmon, trained in Ireland by Michael Hourigan, might be the one to follow him home.
Supreme's Legacy, who was so impressive in a 'bumper' race at Wetherby last Saturday, turns out tomorrow in the Bert Stafford Memorial National Hunt Flat Race.
Highly-rated by trainer Keith Reveley, the gelding is napped to follow-up under Jim Crowley.
