TWO of York's most popular rugby league sons have been training with York City Knights with a view to signing new deals with their home-town club.
Utility star Mark Cain, who was the first player to officially sign for the new club back in 2002 ahead of their inaugural 2003 season, and Craig Forsyth, the former Heworth amateur who signed from Doncaster Dragons midway through the 2003 campaign, are both close to agreeing new deals at Huntington Stadium.
Former York Wasps, Dewsbury and Hull KR player Cain, 29, is trying to prove his fitness following shoulder surgery last season. He was injured in April meaning his appearances were limited to seven at the beginning of the campaign.
Prop forward Forsyth, 35, is bidding to become the old man of the squad.
He announced at the end of last season that he was keen for another run after his last campaign was also hampered by injuries before he came into his own in the Knights' National League Two title-winning run-in.
New scrum-half Phil Hasty is to train with his new team-mates for the first time tomorrow.
He has missed the first few sessions following the death of his father earlier this month.
