FEARSOME former heavyweight champion 'Iron' Mike Tyson was set to take on York's star attractions during a high profile visit today.
Roman soldiers were planning to greet the boxing legend and his entourage at the Minster, before he started a whistlestop tour of the main sights.
He was being accompanied by Doncaster-based superfan Andy Booker, who has organised the trip. Tyson visited his local working men's club yesterday in Askern, near Doncaster, and then popped to his house for Sunday lunch.
The boxer's trip to York was set to include a visit to the Minster, York Dungeon and the city walls. He also hoped to go for lunch at an historic pub in the city.
York tourist guide Keith Mulhearn, who was showing Tyson the sights, said it would be a memorable day.
"We're really looking forward to it - it should be a great day," he said. "It should do a lot for York."
Two of York's top attractions, the Jorvik Viking Centre and Clifford's Tower, said they were unable to welcome the Tyson party on health and safety grounds.
