MANY residents in York will be surprised by London-based Carole Tucker's claim to know their views about the new Archbishop of York (Letters, November 16).
Contrary to her suggestion, there has been enormous local enthusiasm for Dr John Sentamu's appointment as a man of faith, vision and warmth.
May I correct some errors in Carole Tucker's letter?
Dr Sentamu does not arrive in York until his Inauguration Service in York Minster on November 30.
The Inauguration Service is not "sponsored" by anyone: a simple picnic lunch has been ordered from the local branch of Marks & Spencer.
The driver and cook for Bishopthorpe Palace have been recruited in line with the policies of the Church of England's national institutions, which apply all current employment legislation and best practice to every appointment made.
Both have been appointed to enable Archbishop Sentamu to devote all his great energies to a very demanding job, as his many supporters will wish.
Martin Sheppard,
Communications officer,
Diocese of York,
