Jamie Spencer is clearly not resting on his laurels.
The recently-crowned champion Flat jockey was in action in a one-off hurdle race at Haydock on Saturday - ending up on the deck - and tomorrow he heads to Southwell for two mounts at a run-of-the-mill banded meeting, offering £2,000 a race.
The good news is that he at least looks like getting his name on the scoreboard.
Spencer rides Thornaby Green for Thirsk trainer David Barron in the one-mile banded stakes and Barron is not in the habit of booking Spencer for rides without a winning chance.
This four-year-old is unproven on Fibresand, but has shown enough on turf to suggest he has a live chance in this modest contest.
In the concluding 11 furlong race, Spencer will be aboard Mickmacmagooole, trained in Ireland by Seamus O'Donnell.
A Wolverhampton winner on his latest start, the three-year-old should go well with the champion in the saddle and is awarded my Nap vote.
Mind Alert, a winner at the course over the weekend, has good prospects of going in again in the opening five furlong dash.
Smart apprentice Paddy Mathers has the mount on the sprinter, trained near the course by Derek Shaw.
At Sedgefield, Celtic Legend commands respect in the John Smith's Extra Smooth Handicap Chase.
Keith Reveley's gelding, who underwent an operation to correct a breathing problem during the summer, returned to action with a win over hurdles at Wetherby recently.
That outing should have teed him up nicely for this return to fences and I expect he will be difficult to beat under the guidance of Ritchie McGrath.
Tracy Waggott, in her first year as a trainer, has a useful ally on her hands in Longstone Lass, who bids for her third win in succession the Betfred Poker Handicap Hurdle (Series Qualifier).
The five-year-old is in rude health at present, as she showed when scoring handsomely at Ayr on her latest start.
There may be more to come from Longstone Lass, who will again be partnered by Claire Metcalfe, who clearly gets on well with her.
Howard Johnson looks to have his horses firing again after a lean spell and the County Durham trainer, who has a good record on his local course, is fancied to succeed tomorrow.
Theatre Knight, although restricted to only two fruitless outings last season, had previously looked a promising performer.
He is entitled to respect in the John Hellens Maiden Chase with Graham Lee in the saddle.
Johnson and Lee can also win the betdirect.co.uk Novices' Handicap Hurdle with Melmount Star, a Cartmel winner at the end of August, who promises to have more to offer.
