YORK City Knights' 2006 season is likely to kick off with a bumper home tie against National League One rivals Hull Kingston Rovers.
The official fixture list for next year is not due out until Tuesday, so changes to the draft list will be made, but the Evening Press understands that the Robins are provisionally due to visit Huntington Stadium in the opening round of Northern Rail Cup matches on Sunday, February 12.
The Knights' four-team NRC group will also comprise Sheffield and Featherstone, both of whom are expected to be decent NL2 outfits, the latter having been relegated from NL1 last season.
The Knights are also set to have an eye-opening start to the LHF Healthplan National League One - with a Good Friday trip to relegated Super League club Widnes Vikings, the likely favourites for the title.
Under the draft list, which is subject to change, fellow likely front-rowers Halifax and Leigh are also early-season opponents, giving the promoted Knights a challenging start to life in NL1.
Mick Cook's men face Super League outfits Leeds Rhinos (Sunday, January 15), Wakefield (Friday, January 20) and Hull (Sunday, February 5) in confirmed pre-season encounters.
