I HAVE just read Councillor Andy D'Agorne's letter about Gillygate (November 14).
It would be wonderful to restrict traffic and have pedestrian access and parking bays in Gillygate, but I think he needs to take a reality check on modern life.
Traffic in York is bursting at the seams. Closing a major route in our city only congests other roads.
There was never a good time to close Gillygate, but I think City of York Council did the best it could. The work was even finished early!
Journey times during the closure were at least doubled during peak times.
While Coun D'Agorne was drinking coffee, some of us were sitting in traffic trying to earn a living.
I would like to know where would he put the traffic if Gillygate was restricted or closed? Would we all get free bicycles from the city council or could we go back to horse and carts?
At least we could save the horse muck and put it on our gardens to reduce our emissions.
K Scott,
Burnholme Avenue,
York.
