TROUBLEMAKERS kept a low profile during the first Friday night under the new liquor licensing laws which allow pubs and bars to stay open later.
York city centre was as busy as usual, but police did not report any rise in the number of alcohol-fuelled incidents.
Among those to keep officers busy was a teenager and his 21-year-old friend who were caught cycling while drunk.
Sergeant Peter Bainbridge, of York Police, said a 17-year-old male was reported for a summons for cycling on the wrong side of the road in the Micklegate area without lights at about 6pm.
His 21-year-old friend was arrested for a section five public order offence for being abusive after swearing at police officers and ignoring their warnings to behave. "Both were under the influence of alcohol," he said.
At 8.30pm, another man was arrested on Lendal Bridge for being drunk and disorderly and making threats to kill.
Mike Harvey, of York Police, said today: "We have had quite a busy Friday night, but certainly no busier than average. It would appear there has been no difference in the number of drink-related incidents to what we would normally expect on any Friday."
