Pocklington went out of the Powergen Junior Vase at the fourth round stage when they lost 27-12 at home to a well drilled, abrasive Aldwinians.

The Manchester-based club have already tasted Twickenham glory, winning the higher ranked Intermediate Cup there in 1999 - and they are

desperate to go back for more.

The visitors made a powerful start to go 17 points up in the first quarter, and though Pocklington came back

gamely they were never able to peg Aldwinians back.

Aldwinians went straight onto the attack and opened the scoring in the 13th minute when they took advantage of some hesitant home tackling to cross from a midfield scissors.

Pocklington then shot themselves in the foot as twice in quick succession they dropped the ball on the attack, and each time Aldwinians counter-attacked swiftly and won the race for two kick and chases to the right corner to make it 17-0.

Pocklington finally got into gear and the home forwards drove strongly from a line-out on the left for hooker Dave Birch to get the touchdown.

Scrum half Graham Pickering came close in the opposite corner soon after as Pocklington pressured through to the interval, but another Aldwinians counter at the start of the second half pulled them clear again when they ran back a Pocklington clearance kick.

Pocklington had more of the attacking in the last half hour, but they failed to turn pressure into points until Pickering's box kick was

collected by strong running winger Tim Nixon, who went under the posts for Henry Mitchell to convert.

But Aldwinians had the final word as Pocklington again lost possession and the visitors took full advantage to put together a burst of quick

passing for their fifth try.
