TERRY Barwick is hoping to end one-and-a-half years in the football wilderness with York City.
The 22-year-old midfielder, signed on loan from Grimsby Town, has vowed to kick-start his career again at KitKat Crescent following frustrating times with the Mariners and previous club Scunthorpe United.
Having been a virtual ever present in the 2003-2004 campaign with Scunthorpe, Barwick was restricted to just one LDV Vans Trophy outing during the Iron's promotion from League Two last season.
The 5ft 11in midfielder has found his chances similarly limited since his summer switch to Blundell Park with Russell Slade's men also mounting a promotion challenge from the Football League's basement division.
But Barwick went straight into the Minstermen's starting line-up for Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Morecambe and is now aiming for a sustained run of first-team games after an encouraging full debut.
He said: "The last two seasons have been frustrating but I am regarding this as a chance I have been given at York and I want to take it. I asked to go out on loan because I wasn't playing.
"I was only on the subs' bench at Grimsby and the gaffer told me that Billy McEwan had rung up to see if I wanted to go on loan so I jumped at the chance. I am hoping to win games at York and get them as far up the table as I can.
"I thought I did okay against Morecambe but there's still a lot to come from me. That was my first game for a while and the more games I get the better I will play."
Barwick also felt his new team were unfortunate to lose by two goals at play-off contenders Morecambe, saying: "I'm disappointed that we were beaten because I think 2-0 flattered them. We had a couple of chances to score but the game did not go our way."
About the possibility of turning his temporary move into a permanent switch, Barwick added: "It's a bit too early to talk about that and it would be up to both managers but I will just give 100 per cent and see what happens from there."
City juniors' home match with Rotherham United on Saturday was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
Chas Wrigley (knee) and Anthony Taylor (ankle) have both returned to fitness after long injury lay-offs.
