I ALSO received a card from Royal Mail as they could not deliver a parcel while I was at work ("Royal Mail should employ more staff", Letters, November 23). Several attempts to call the number to re-arrange delivery failed.
I made a trip during rush hour traffic but as parking is not now available at the Leeman Road sorting office I had to abandon my car on the opposite side of the street.
I was told the parcel was not there and had been signed for. I had to point out that if I had signed for the parcel, I would have it and not the card.
I was given a phone number and the name of the customer services manager. While I was there an extremely exasperated man left a message on the unanswered phone, exclaiming that he had been trying to contact somebody all day to re-arrange delivery.
At this point I dared to mention how a woman used to sit in the office, answer the phones and hand over parcels efficiently and politely.
I was told by the woman there that she was not paid anywhere near the wages the receptionist was and had to also do her job. Another postal worker then threw his pen on the floor along with a parcel and said he hoped he wouldn't be working there by Christmas.
Incensed at my lost parcel, and the lack of customer service from the Royal Mail workers, I rang to complain. After being passed from pillar to post, I spoke to an extremely uninterested person. I have not heard a thing back three weeks later.
Royal Mail should sort out its staff, then it may be able to sort out our parcels.
