Selby Town returned to Northern Counties East League premier division action after recent cup exploits and picked up three points with a 1-0 win at Mickleover.

The Robins got the winner in the 41st minute when a move involving Ian Twitchen, Chris Kamara and Tom Matthews broke down on the edge of the penalty area but the ball cannoned in off a defender.

Selby had to soak up some pressure in the second half but the defence held firm and Adam Mitchell made three great saves to deny the Derbyshire side while Twitchen and Adam Wash both went close on the break.

Promotion-chasing Pickering lost ground on leaders Buxton after a disappointing 0-0 home draw with Glapwell but Harrogate Railway moved up to sixth following a 2-1 victory at lowly Hallam.

Goals by Graham Marchant and Scott Bairstow gave Railway a two-goal first-half cushion but Damien Henderson then blazed a penalty out of the ground after the break when Chris Howarth was brought down.

Howarth was then sent off for his second bookable offence and Anthony Wilson grabbed a consolation for the home team.

Tadcaster Albion's dressing room at half-time in their division one 2-0 win at Staveley Miners' Welfare resembled a scene from Casualty, with a paramedic attending to Paul James, who had been taken off with a back injury, and Matt Cressey and Andy Green nursing cut eyes.

But Albion were two goals up through Green and Andy Battersby and their defence was on top form in the second period.

Dave Watson got his marching orders late on for alleged misuse of an elbow.

Late goals from player-manager Nigel Danby and top scorer Steve Davey earned Goole a 3-3 draw in their UniBond League first division home clash with Bamber Bridge. Dave Watts had earlier given Goole the lead.
