Dringhouses, the cup holders and favourites with many to retain the trophy, have been knocked out of the York FA Saturday Senior Cup, beaten 3-1 by Kartiers in the third round.

The home side opened the scoring within three minutes. After a move which went the length of the field, Glenn Littlewood struck a daisy-cutter into the left-hand corner.

Dringhouses pressed for an equaliser, but Kartiers' defence held firm and after ten minutes and against the run of play they went two up when 16-year-old Michael Braithwaite cut in from the right and netted with a great shot.

Andrew Wood scored the third for Kartiers following the best move of the game.

Dringhouses had a player sent off by referee John Whitehead before they finally broke the Kartiers' defence, Lee Bond scoring.

Huntington Rovers, last season's beaten finalists, went through to the semi-finals with a 3-1 win at home to Thorpe United, who took the lead through Mick Carbodie. Steve Kendal equalised before the interval.

Ian Dunn put Huntington ahead from the penalty spot early in the second half and Chris Dyson added a third goal. Five minutes from the end, Carbodie netted his second goal, this time from the penalty spot.

Bishopthorpe United, with goals from Ben Clarke and Richard Law, won 2-1 at home to a youthful Rufforth United side. Bishopthorpe 'keeper Ian MacPherson saved a penalty.

St John's College won 4-1 away to Malton Bacon Factory. Chris Baxter opened the scoring for St John's from a free kick. Bacon Factory had a player sent off early in the second half. St John's went further ahead with goals from Ben Winstanley and Robin Bedford. Simon Collins reduced the arrears before Winstanley got the fourth goal for St John's.
