THEY say "Save The Planet, Use Less Electric".

Well I have a question to ask. Why is it almost every electrical item that I have bought in the recent past, lacks an off switch? A computer printer, a TV freeview box, a DVD player, a radio, and the washing machine all lack an off button. Why?

How many people load their automatic washing machines to run while out at work, or shopping, only to return hours later to find the washing machine on standby mode. Why are they not programmed to switch off after a washing cycle?

I do struggle every night to get behind my TV to unplug everything attached to it, but not everyone will.

I know many would unplug machines if they knew how much electric the standby modes were costing them. I also think it is a colossal waste of energy and manufacturers should only see items that can be totally switched off when not required.

The next time I buy anything I will follow the tortoise from Creature Comforts

(pictured above) and insist, "It has to be very on and off-able."
