THE Archbishop of York's sentiments and observations were like a breath of fresh air to a beleaguered nation with all the political correctness we have to endure these days (November 23).
It takes a foreign national to remind us of our pride and heritage, warts and all, that our influence in all walks of life from commerce to industry, inventions and the basic rule of law and fair play has attributed and influenced many corners of the earth over the centuries.
One must not forget that we as a nation have built our present status quo over a long and arduous period of time through many tried and tested ideas in our infancy.
Our very own ancestry be it from Anglo-Saxon, Roman, Scandinavian or Norman influences, mean we are all foreign nationals underneath, irrespective of race, colour or creed amongst our diverse society. However, be proud of the fact we are British, but do not abuse the privilege. Treat it with some humility when the need arises.
