EARLIER this month I volunteered to help with the street collection for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal. I would like to thank everyone who supported the cause by making a donation.
By Saturday the donations I'd received amounted to a fantastic £366 and that was collecting for only three hours a day.
The veterans, the more mature members of society who fought in various past conflicts, would always appear earliest in the morning and not return to HQ until their collecting tins were full. An absolute inspiration they were and are.
On the Saturday the army, navy and RAF cadets were out in force and all looking splendid in their various uniforms and it was great to see so many young faces who also know the reasons behind the poppy appeal.
We will remember them.
