AN adult tag rugby summer league is set to start next year following the success of the inaugural trial festival.
Eight teams took part in the event at Oaklands School, including a unique team featuring coaches past and present from York City Knights.
The event was organised by Tony Gargan and Knights development officer Jason Ramshaw, who said: "We will do it again definitely.
"The plan is to hold another festival in the spring and then get a summer league going. We believe there is enough interest for adult tag rugby to grow in York."
The eight teams were split into two groups of four and played round robin games, with the top and bottom pairs in each group forming two leagues and playing further round robin games.
The Knights team - featuring current head coach Mick Cook and former bosses Richard Agar and Paul Broadbent among others - lost one match to a young side featuring some future Knights Academy players, although they regained face by winning a challenge match at the end of the day.
Ramshaw said: "We were fading after three or four games on the trot and they beat us for pace, but we were far superior. I'd like to think we were beaten by an up and coming Knights team."
Acorn Old Boys are to play Southlands Old Boys in the first 13-a-side tag match bet-ween two York teams. It will be at Thanet Road on Sunday, December 11, ko 1.30pm. Anyone (over-30) interested in playing should contact Tony Gargan on 07736 040804 or Gary Hill on 07749 806291.
