IT just goes to show you do not need to win X-Factor to produce your own hit CD.
Children at Alne Primary School, at Alne, near Easingwold, have produced an album of songs to raise money for the school.
Teacher Melissa Cooper, who organised the recording, said: "We got a CD company - Recording Stars - to come in and record the children singing in the main hall.
"They went away, produced it and put it all on a CD. We're going to sell it for £10 to parents and friends of the school.
"We were trying to think of ways to raise money for the school and I'd seen other schools do this.
"There are 20 songs on the CD - choir songs, songs from musicals and some solos. And it is quite varied with S Club 7's Reach For The Stars alongside Lean On Me, Jingle Bells and songs from Oliver."
The Friends of Alne Primary School put on a competition to design the front cover for the album.
Together with head teacher Paul Platt, they chose 11-year-old Laura Soper's entry for the cover. Laura was presented with a HMV voucher by Mike Whitehead, of Recording Stars, in Burnley.
Mrs Cooper said: "Laura was really proud of herself to have won."
The school has already had 113 orders for the CD. Mrs Cooper hopes they will sell even more at the annual Christmas fair.
