EASINGWOLD sidecar star Steve Webster, who retired in September after 25 years in the sport, was honoured by the BBC last night.
The modest speedster, who won ten world titles, gained the Service to Sport award at BBC's Yorkshire Sports Awards at the National Railway Museum, York.
York City Knights RL Club, who won the National 2 title, received the Radio York award after a poll by listeners.
The top gong, the Yorkshire Sports Personality of the Year, went to England cricket captain Michael Vaughan, who led his side to Ashes glory.
The Yorkshire batsman will join David Woodward from Rotherham Hockey Club - who was named as BBC Yorkshire Sports Unsung Hero of the Year - at the national Sport Review of the Year programme in London a week on Sunday.
The Team 2005 section was won by Leeds Tykes, who lifted last season's Powergen Cup by beating Bath at Twickenham.
Rotherham-based Embassy world snooker champion Shaun Murphy, who will be playing at the Barbican in the UK Championship in York next week, won the BBC Yorkshire Look North Award.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock was named Manager/Coach of the Year after steering the Owls to promotion to the Championship.
A former Hillsborough goal-scoring hero, Derek Dooley, now chairman of Sheffield United, won the Ambassador Award.
Showjumping legend Harvey Smith was inducted to the Hall of Fame.
Several Sport England Yorkshire awards were also presented. The npower National Village Cup winners Sheriff Hutton Bridge Cricket Club came joint third in the senior team section which was won by the Yorkshire ladies county golf team, who won won the English county finals.
Other winners included junior girl (Sarah Turner, sports acrobatics), junior boy (Adam Blythe, cycling), junior team (Wakefield Gymnastics Club), disability (Sarah Ryan, athletics), top female achiever (Katherine Brunt, cricket) and top male achiever Michael Vaughan (cricket).
