THE day after a report condemned the way children are taught to read, we can chalk up some far more encouraging education news.
Pupils at primary schools across York and North Yorkshire have attained impressive scores in the Key Stage Two tests.
Top marks go to English Martyrs School in York. This is a remarkable outcome considering it shares head teacher Eileen Fitzpatrick with another school. We must hope the education authority won't get any ideas that one head is better than two.
Well done, too, to North Duffield Primary School. Its excellent results are proof that small can be special.
How nice to end the school week with such positive headlines. We wish all the children and staff involved a restful weekend. You deserve it.
